Tango Through South County: Aug. 19 to 24

The Culture Coalition has enticed the Island Moving Company to move across the bay to South County!

Island Moving Company joins with the South County Culture Coalition to present Tango Through South County: Interpretive Dance Performances at Six Historic Sites, a site specific dance experience taking place at each of the coalition’s member locations.  IMC choreographer Michael Bolger will work with the Company’s dancers as well as members of the community to create a dance that will be tailored for each of the six landscapes.  Beginning with open rehearsals at the lawn of The Towers, by Narragansett Beach, on August 16 & 17, Bolger will create a series of movement phrases for the group of dancers. 

On August 19th, the dance will be set for a performance at The Towers and then will be reset each afternoon of the following week for a performance at 6:30 at a succession of Culture Coalition sites.  The dances, about 20 minutes in length, will move through the different landscapes, with references to each unique place.  Each site will have an open house following the performance with the exception of the performance at The Towers on August 19th.  That dance will be followed by a Culture Coalition Summer Gala at The Towers until 8:30 pm.  Tickets for the gala are $20 in advance at Culture Coalition locations, or $25 at the door. Performances and open houses will be cancelled if there is rain.

This is the third summer that the Culture Coalition has collaborated on themed projects to accomplish our mission. Tango Through South County: Interpretive Dance Performances at Six Historic Sites is sponsored in part by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and Friends of The Towers.
