The Island Moving Co. welcomes Guest Choreographer (and IMC Guest Dancer) Spencer Gavin Hering to our Newport studio.
Hering is creating a piece entitled Heart Vignettes that will be premiered at Dances, Drinks & Dinner on May 11th at the Casino Theatre.
Please join us on Friday, April 26th - 7:00p.m. at the IMC studios- 3 Charles St, FL 2 in Newport - for a preview of work that will be performed.

The Paris Raffle fundraiser was hugely successful this year. Over $18,000 was raised to support the Island Moving Co. and its mission. If you didn't win this year, you'll get another chance when we will do this raffle again in 2014!

Dances, Drinks & Dinner - May 11, 2013

A performance at the Casino Theatre with an event option of joining us for Pre-Show Cocktails with the Directors of the Island Moving Company and then having dinner with the IMC dancers and choreographers AFTER the show.
Ticket prices range from $25-$100/ a piece

The performance will feature new choreography from IMC dancers and Guest Spencer Hering (from iMEE- infinite Movement Ever Evolving) as well as Danielle Genest's Risk of Exposure.

This is our third annual performance over Mother's Day Weekend at the Casino Theatre and we hope you and your families join us for this wonderful event.

The Island Moving Co. takes flight...really!

IMC Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen and nine dances are on their way to Missouri to join Missouri Contemporary Ballet perform in Connectivity March 8 & 9.
The companies will share a program as part of IMC's Touring Model. Missouri Contemporary Ballet performed at Great Friends Dance Festival in Newport- July 2012.

MCB just posted on FaceBook that they liked an idea we use at the Festival. We love hearing feedback from our audiences so we have a "Tell Us What You Think" Board for audience members to share their thoughts. What do you think about IMC? The dancers are working now in the studio with Providence choreographer Mark Harootian, who has created In the Beginning, with music by Vivaldi and inspiration from physicist Brian Cox: “We are the cosmos made conscious and life is the means by which the universe understands itself.” We have some wonderful energy in rehearsal with our new dancers, Katie Moorhead, who you will remember from her stunning performances with John-Mark Owen at the Great Friends Dance Festival; Jose Gonzalez, who has just joined us from Charleston Ballet Theatre; and the returning Spencer Hering, who was Christine Sandorfi's romantic Cavalier in last year's Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff. Shane, Brooke, Glen, Carol, Christine and Meredith are all looking beautiful and will be performing in the Opening Weekend shows of Mother Goose and the Saturday evening Opening Connections. Apologies to all who couldn't get onto our website over the long weekend. We got "transferred" to a new host and it wasn't quite as carefree as they promised.
A great performance by our Junior Company at Barnes and Noble yesterday, to the delight of many little people.

An End of Pearls

Island Moving Co.'s glorious Thirtieth has come to a close with a spectacular Nutcracker -- sold out as usual -- and furious planning for the year ahead. In case you missed our references, the thirtieth is the pearl anniversary and we have had pearls aplenty this season. From a brand new Mother Goose at Rosecliff, to our California tour, to the new scholarship class at Newport Academy of Ballet, to The World is Your Oyster gala at the International Yacht Restoration School, it has been a lustrous year. All the activity has put a strain on finances that we hope to alleviate by year's end, so if you haven't already contributed to Newport's contemporary ballet this season, we hope you will.
